PT BIA and Universitas Musamus Plant 2,000 Mangroves to Strengthen Coastal Resilience in Merauke
08 October 2026
Merauke, 6 October 2026 – PT Bio Inti Agrindo (PT BIA), in collaboration with Universitas Musamus (Unmus), carried out the planting of 2,000 mangrove seedlings at Payum Beach, Merauke, South Papua, as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and community-based sustainability.
PT BIA’s mangrove initiative at Payum Beach has been implemented since 2024 and continues to grow through collaboration with universities, local communities, government institutions, and other stakeholders.
The activity reflects PT BIA’s view that environmental protection requires collective responsibility. Businesses, academic institutions, government, and communities each have an important role in safeguarding ecosystems and creating long-term benefits for future generations.
President Director of PT BIA, Kong Byoung Sun, emphasized that the initiative should go beyond a one-time environmental activity.
“Sustainability can only be achieved through collaboration. We hope this initiative will continue to grow into a long-term partnership that benefits both the environment and the surrounding communities.”
Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in supporting coastal resilience, protecting shorelines, maintaining biodiversity, and sustaining the ecological functions of coastal areas.
Beyond planting, the collaboration between PT BIA and Universitas Musamus also supports the development of the Mangrove Education Center, which is expected to serve as a platform for environmental education, research, conservation activities, and community engagement.
Through this approach, mangrove conservation is not only focused on planting seedlings, but also on strengthening awareness, encouraging community participation, and supporting long-term monitoring and maintenance.
PT BIA hopes that the 2,000 mangroves planted at Payum Beach will grow successfully and contribute to the protection of the coastal ecosystem while creating lasting environmental value for the people of Merauke.
This initiative also represents a broader commitment to building partnerships that connect environmental conservation, education, and community development.
