PT Bio Inti Agrindo Contributing To Blue Carbon Project In Merauke

Merauke, July 20th 2024 – PT Bio Inti Agrindo (PT BIA) has undertaken a significant environmental conservation initiative by planting 1,000 mangrove trees along the coastal areas of Payum, Merauke. This effort is part of the company's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The mangrove planting event was attended by Musamus University Chancellor, MBATNA nursery community, One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) and environmental, maritime and fisheries department including PT BIA representatives. The initiative aims to restore and protect the coastal ecosystem, which is crucial for biodiversity, coastal protection, and the livelihoods of local communities.
Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
PT Bio Inti Agrindo has been dedicated to environmental conservation as an integral part of its CSR strategy. The mangrove planting program in Merauke is designed to:
- Enhance Coastal Protection: Mangroves play a vital role in protecting coastlines from erosion and storm surges. By planting mangroves, PT BIA aims to safeguard the coastal areas of Merauke from natural disasters.
- Promote Biodiversity: Mangrove forests provide habitats for various species of fish, birds, and other wildlife. This initiative helps in preserving and enhancing the local biodiversity.
- Support Local Communities: Mangroves contribute to the livelihoods of local communities by supporting fisheries and providing raw materials. The program also includes community involvement, ensuring that the benefits are shared with those living in the area.
Event Highlights
The event began with an opening ceremony where PT BIA’s President Director, Mr. Kim Wonil, emphasized the importance of mangrove ecosystems and the company's commitment to sustainable development. He stated, "Its collaborative action between local Universities, local community, company and government in contributing NDC 2030 to mitigate green gas house”.
Musamus University Chancellor Beatus Tambaip expressed their support for the initiative. "We greatly appreciate PT Bio Inti Agrindo's efforts in conserving these coastal areas. This program is crucial for protecting our environment and supporting the sustainable development of Merauke,"
The event saw the planting of over 1,000 mangrove saplings, with active participation from local community members and PT BIA employees as volunteers. The seeding process was carried out for the previous three months by the MBATNA Mangrove Group and guided by Musamus University lecturers that’s include Educational sessions to raise awareness about the importance of mangroves and how to care for them.
