PT BIA and Musamus University Plant 2,000 Mangroves Along the Payum Coast to Protect Marine Ecosystems and Strengthen Environmental Resilience
28 May 2025
Merauke, May 28, 2025 – PT Bio Inti Agrindo (PT BIA), in collaboration with Musamus University, once again carried out a mangrove planting activity along the Payum coastline on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. This initiative marks the second phase of the program that began in 2024 as part of an ongoing commitment to preserve marine ecosystems and enhance environmental resilience.
A total of 2,000 mangrove seedlings were prepared for this year’s program, with some being planted directly by local residents during the event. The initiative reflects PT BIA’s sustainability philosophy, which promotes harmony between nature, people, and the future through responsible palm oil management practices.
“This is more than just an environmental action; it is a meaningful step that not only supports ecological preservation but also creates economic opportunities through active community involvement,” said Mr. Kim Won Il, President Director of PT BIA.
The mangrove planting program aims to restore the Payum coastline into a thriving and healthy ecosystem. Furthermore, it reinforces the belief that a sustainable future can only be achieved through close collaboration among the private sector, academia, local communities, and all relevant stakeholders.
“We hope that future generations will be able to enjoy a more balanced and sustainable natural environment,” Mr. Kim Won Il added.
With the participation of Musamus University students, local communities, and PT BIA employees, the event also served as an inspiring example of community-based conservation efforts in South Papua.
