Merauke, May 27, 2025 – A total of 20 wild animals were successfully released back into their natural habitat during a conservation event organized by PT Bio Inti Agrindo (PT BIA) in collaboration with the Papua Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA Papua) through the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) Region I Merauke. The event took place near Boha Village and marked a significant step in supporting ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation in South Papua.

This release was more than just a routine conservation activity it reflected PT BIA’s philosophy of fostering harmonious coexistence between humans, nature, and the future through sustainable palm oil practices. In a formal address, a PT BIA representative stated that the release of these animals serves as a tangible demonstration of the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and ecosystem preservation.

“We sincerely hope that the animals returning to the wild today will live healthy lives and thrive naturally. Our greater hope is that future generations can enjoy a more balanced and sustainable natural environment,” said the PT BIA representative during the event.
The animals released were rescued from illegal wildlife trafficking. The species included:

•    1 Reticulated Python (Simalia amethistina) listed in Appendix II – CITES
•    2 Sepik Monitor Lizards (Varanus jobiensis)
•    1 Mangrove Monitor (Varanus salvadorii) listed in Appendix II – CITES
•    3 Blue-Tongued Skinks (Tiligua gigas)
•    12 Long-Necked Turtles (Chelodina novaeguineae)

According to BKSDA Region I Merauke, this activity is part of an official conservation project that has been ongoing since 2024, implemented in collaboration with local communities and private companies. The primary goals are to return wildlife to their natural habitats, strengthen wild animal populations, and break the cycle of illegal wildlife trade that threatens Papua's biodiversity.

In addition to the animal release, the event also featured an educational outreach program for elementary school children in Boha Village, Muting District, Merauke, to raise awareness about conservation.
The event concluded with heartfelt appreciation from the entire team of BKSDA Region I Merauke, PT BIA staff, and the Boha Village community for their synergy and dedication in making this conservation effort a success.
