CONSERVATION AREA

We have made it our goal to maintain biodiversity in our concession through meticulous flora and fauna protection efforts and campaigns to raise awareness among the local community.

PT. BIA has taken the necessary steps to maintain biodiversity and promote conservation efforts in our concession. In accordance with the High Conservation Value (HCV) Guidance Toolkit, we ensure to identify HCV areas before every land development and conduct HCV Assessment in partnership with accredited third-party assessors. Based on the assessment, this HCV area is regularly managed pursuant to our NDPE Policy and Conservation Commitment. We have also made it our goal to raise awareness among the employees and local communities on the importance of biodiversity preservation. In total, we have identified 6,718 ha of HCV area in our concession.

With such rich biodiversity, Indonesia is home to thousands of unique flora and fauna across its many islands and the conservation area of our Company is no exception. Our conservation areas are rich in various species of Avifauna, Herpetofauna, and Mammals. Their protection and conservation are a top priority for us. PT. BIA strongly bans hunting of endemic fauna and illegal exploitation of local plants.

In line with our NDPE policy and through our best management practices, we continue to maintain the ecological functions of our conservation area. Our activities include routine patrols by our conservation team as well as local residents who are members of the Village Monitoring Team (TMK) and monitoring activities through trap cameras and other tools. We make sure to document the types of species that inhabit our conservation area. In addition, we also aim to increase awareness between employees and the local communities towards the importance of preserving biodiversity in conservation areas and their ecosystems. This was stated clearly in the commitment of PT BIA's Conservation Commitment.

Flora and Fauna Protection

Our HCV area houses unique rare, threatened, and endangered (RTE) species. Our Conservation Team monitors these species through regular patrols in our concession using trap cameras and other tools. These species are well documented for continuous monitoring. PT. BIA strictly prohibits the hunting of these endemic fauna and illegal exploitation of the local plant life.
