Merauke, South Papua  - Since 2012, PT Bio Inti Agrindo (BIA) has invested in oil palm head plants in Merauke. Now the company has produced crude palm oil (CPO). These products are not only marketed in Indonesia, but have even been exported abroad.

To remain competitive in the global market, the company must have the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) or an association consisting of various organizations from various sectors of the palm oil industry that aims to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil production.

In connection with this intention, the company held a meeting with the parties in the context of HCV (High Conservation Value) assessment and PDS (Social Impact Assessment) monitoring in the PT BIA work area in Merauke Regency.

"HCV is one of the requirements that must be carried out by companies to be able to compete in the global market. This means that activities in oil palm areas must prioritize high conservation or be environmentally friendly in order to maintain forest functions," explained the Head of the Merauke Regency Environmental Agency (DLH), Ir. Harmini at Halogen Hotel, Monday (10/02).

He said that development is indeed needed, but it must prioritize social functions and environmental impacts by paying attention to what can and cannot be done.

So that on this occasion the parties who attended the meeting were expected to provide input, as well as suggestions for safe, environmentally friendly and sustainable company activities.

PT BIA has been exporting palm oil since August 2019. So it is very important for the RSPO to pay attention to two important stages, namely regarding social and environmental matters.

Regarding social responsibility, PT BIA is known as the fastest company to carry out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) both towards employees, government and communities around the company.

"We hope that there will be input, so that palm oil activities can be sustainable. We use the services of consultants who are experts in this field. We also have a team to always pay attention to every process so that it remains in accordance with the regulations," explained PT BIA General Manager, Yanto Dawenan.

Currently, the number of employees at PT BIA reaches around 4000 people. Of the total, 17 foreign workers come from South Korea.
