Collaboration PT BIA – UNHAS Healthcare and Community Service Programs in Merauke, Papua

Merauke, South Papua – A strategic collaboration between PT Bio Inti Agrindo (PT BIA) and the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), provided free healthcare services for the people of Ulilin District from November 4 to 9, 2024. The medical team served 1,610 patients during this program.
Team and Collaboration
This initiative is part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties on June 20, 2024, in Makassar. The community service program involved 19 professional doctors from various specialties, including pediatricians, dentists, obstetricians, internists, and surgeons. The team was led by Dr. dr. Andi Alfian Zainuddin, MKM, who also serves as the Vice Dean for Cooperation, Research, and Innovation at the Faculty of Medicine, UNHAS.
In his remarks, Mr. Song In An, Management Representative of PT BIA, stated, “This activity reflects our CSR commitment and cross-sector collaboration to create a healthy and empowered Merauke community.” Similarly, Dr. dr. Andi Alfian Zainuddin, MKM, emphasized that this collaboration is an implementation of Hasanuddin University’s dedication to community service.
Program Focus
The program offered a range of healthcare services, including:
1. General Check-up and Treatment
Patients received free health check-up, treatment for common illnesses, medical consultations, and education on healthy and hygienic lifestyles.
2. Dental and Oral Health
This included dental check-up, tooth extractions, and education on maintaining dental and oral hygiene.
3. Maternal and Child Health (MCH)
Designed to support the health of pregnant women, children, and infants, the program also included ultrasound (USG) examinations.
4. Specialist Examinations
The medical team provided specialized care for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, hepatitis, and other internal diseases.
Hopes and Sustainability
This type of activity is conducted annually by PT Bio Inti Agrindo, but this year’s program was unique due to its partnership with a local institution, the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University. It is hoped that this collaboration will inspire other organizations to join efforts in building a healthier and more prosperous Indonesia.
