Social dialogue during this meeting reflected a new milestone, as all participants agreed to establish a dedicated Community Communication Forum to ensure more structured and regular engagement moving forward. Participants included leaders of the Basik-Basik Clan, Mahuze Besar Clan, Omba Clan of the Basik-Basik Sub-Clan, Mahuze Milafo Clan, Mahuze Kewam Clan, representatives of the Mahuze Milafo customary hamlets, as well as PT BIA management representatives. The Community Communication Forum will be conducted through two regular meetings every year as a platform to strengthen communication, coordination, and long-term collaboration between the company and local communities.
As part of strengthening social governance and transparency, PT BIA reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), locally known as PADIATAPA, through dialogue, consultation, and mutual agreement with indigenous communities. During the forum, the company also socialized its Grievance Mechanism, which can be accessed through various official communication channels and implemented based on the principles of transparency, verification, and dialogue-based resolution.
PT BIA also emphasized that the presence and support of Indigenous Communities play an important role in supporting the company’s operations. Through the plasma scheme, the company continues to encourage social and economic development, improve community welfare, and promote sustainable development within surrounding communities.
“The company believes that operational success must go hand in hand with tangible benefits for the community. Therefore, open, participatory, and respectful communication remains the main foundation of our long-term relationship with indigenous communities in South Papua,” said Erwan, Head of Office and Public Relations Manager of PT Bio Inti Agrindo.
“Based on the communication process and direct engagement we have experienced, we see PT BIA’s commitment in building a positive relationship with indigenous communities. Moving forward, regular communication and the establishment of a joint coordination team should continue to be strengthened so that coordination, cooperation, and assistance between PT BIA and indigenous customary communities can continue sustainably,” said Linus Batia Omba, Head of the Omba Clan.
“We have heard about the plan to develop a CSR junior high school program in Kukumit and would like to express our appreciation for PT BIA’s attention to community education. We hope that educational facilities can also be considered in the Division 3 area in the future so that our children can access education more easily and closer to their homes,” said Stevanus Mahuze, Head of the Mahuze Besar Clan.
“We appreciate PT BIA’s programs and hope that in the future the community can also receive financial management training so that the benefits of these programs can be managed more effectively,” added Donatus M. Kewam, Head of the Mahuze Kewam Clan.
PT BIA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining water quality through regular monitoring conducted every semester together with certified personnel, representatives of indigenous communities, and the Environmental Agency. Laboratory testing conducted by a KAN-accredited laboratory confirmed that water quality remains within the applicable regulatory standards. During the meeting, participants also formally agreed to establish the Community Communication Forum as a regular platform for dialogue between the company and communities, to be conducted at least twice a year. In addition, PT BIA confirmed that the plasma implementation program has been completed 100%, with 20% of the company’s HGU area allocated to community plasma cooperatives while continuing to uphold principles of transparency and sustainability.
Through this forum, community representatives also conveyed various constructive aspirations related to education, strengthening cooperative financial management capacity, youth development, and the continuity of communication between the company and indigenous communities. PT BIA welcomed all feedback as an important part of its continuous improvement process and long-term relationship building efforts.
Moving forward, PT BIA remains committed to strengthening collaborative approaches, respecting indigenous cultural values and traditions, and ensuring that economic development progresses in harmony with environmental protection and the welfare of communities in South Papua.
