Merauke, 9 June 2022, Swissbell Merauke Hotel Ballroom – PT Bio Inti Agrindo (PT.BIA) initiated a meeting with the Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) of Merauke Regency led by Regent Drs. Romanus Mbaraka MT. This meeting focused on the strategic partnerships between the private sector and the government that can go hand in hand. The event began with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem Indonesia Raya, the singing of Tanah Papua, reciting joint prayers, greetings from the President Director of PT BIA Hyun Chang Seop, remarks from the Regent Romanus Mbaraka, as well as the event’s opening being marked by the beating of a tifa (traditional Papuan drum) together (the Regent alongside the President Director) indicating synergy as collaborative efforts must be carried out for the sake of development in Papua, especially in the Regency of Merauke.

A brief speech from PT BIA’s President Director consisted of a thank you and best wishes of hope that this activity can have a positive impact on the indigenous Papuan communities residing around the Company. Our program was designed to align with existing government programs, meaning that the private sector provides support for government activities for the development of a sustainable community and village.

The Regent conveyed in his remarks "I have understood the intentions, objectives and plans of this program, and they very good activities, therefore we have gathered the OPD here to discuss this collaboration program in more detail".

The discussion continued into 3 panel groups including Group 1 which focused on health, education and social, Group 2 focusing on economics, and Group 3 specializing in environment. Group discussions were conducted until 15:00 WIT and following the discussions it was agreed that several activities could begin this June.

Romanus expressed his appreciation of PT BIA's strategic partnership activities, as he said "I think what PT BIA has done is extraordinary, to carry out partnerships with local governments, for example in the health sector, such as the Health Office, we can form partnerships with health programs carried out by PT BIA" Romanus’ remarks during a press conference accompanied by the President Director of PT BIA.

Regent Romanus, who is known as a firm figure, stated that what was carried out by PT BIA at this time will be reported to the Central Government, precisely the Ministry of Environment so that when the Ministry enacts a program, the aforementioned program will net a positive synergy. This should be considered as being very good due to PT BIA financing this program and the government will definitely conduct a cost sharing, he said before the media crew.

Sustainability Manager of PT BIA Kartika Dewi stated that this program would focus on the economic development of villages-based communities, starting with analyzing potential gains, the development of a sustainable economic roadmap to assisting the implementation of BUMK (Village -Owned Enterprises) activities and also assisting the community in gaining broader market access for commodities and products that they have produced. All parties involved hope that the economy of these villages can become self-sufficient. The identification of needs and the partners required for improving education and health will also be conducted. The villages in which the focus of the program is centered are Selil, Kindiki, Wan, Boha, Selauw, Pachas, Ponds and Muting villages.
