PT BIO INTI AGRINDO STRENGTHENS ACCESS TO EDUCATION THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION OF KUKUMID PUBLIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Merauke, 4 June 2026 – PT Bio Inti Agrindo (PT BIA), in collaboration with the Merauke Regency Government, officially marked the commencement of the construction of Kukumid Public Junior High School (SMP Negeri Kukumid) through a foundation concrete pouring ceremony held on 4 June 2026. The event was attended by representatives from the Department of Education and Culture, the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office (DPMPTSP), district government officials, community leaders, and PT BIA management. This initiative reflects the company's ongoing commitment to expanding access to quality educational facilities for children living within its operational areas.

PT BIA has consistently supported education across all levels, from early childhood to secondary education. To date, the company has established three kindergartens, three elementary schools, and two junior high schools within the Kukumid, Isau, and Loo plantation areas. The construction of Kukumid Public Junior High School further strengthens this educational infrastructure. In addition, PT BIA provides teacher incentives, educational scholarships for indigenous children, learning facilities that meet national standards, and childcare centers located within its estates and divisions to ensure children receive safe and proper care while their parents are at work.

PT BIA's commitment also extends to communities surrounding the Bian Lake Wildlife Reserve through the BIAN Project, which covers eight villages: Selil, Kindiki, Muting, Pachas, Boha, Kolam, Waan, and Selauw. In the education sector, the company implements the Village Children's School (Sekolah Anak Kampung) and informal learning programs supported by professional facilitators to improve children's literacy and numeracy skills. The program is complemented by community awareness campaigns highlighting the importance of education. Over a 24-month period, with dedicated village facilitators, the initiative achieved improvements of 22% in reading skills, 25% in writing skills, and 22% in mathematics proficiency.

These initiatives primarily contribute to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly by improving access to early childhood, primary, and secondary education, strengthening literacy, supporting educators, and providing safe and conducive learning environments. The provision of childcare facilities also supports SDG 5: Gender Equality by enabling parents, including women, to remain in the workforce. Furthermore, the collaboration between PT BIA, the government, and local communities reinforces SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating the importance of multi-stakeholder cooperation in achieving sustainable development.
