23 May 2024
PT Bio Inti Agrindo (PT BIA) continues to realize its commitment to increasing employee capacity, on 23-24 May 2024 gender committee administrators were involved in training on prevention, handling and assistance after cases of violence against children and women. This training was attended by 20 active gender committee administrators at Merauke, South Papua. Invite speakers, Mrs. Adriana Mailoa, a psychologist from the Kharisma Psychologist Assistance Institute and Mrs. Winona Welliken from the Child Protection Institute.
The main objective of this event was to provide education and information to the community regarding the prevention and handling of cases of violence against women and children, particularly within the workplace environment.
Violence against children and women has become a global issue of concern. To assist victims, it is important to ensure that they receive medical, psychological, and legal support to overcome trauma. With this support, it is hoped that violence against children and women can be minimized and victims receive proper care and justice. Data from the Online Information System for the Protection of Women and Children (SIMFONI) reveals that cases of violence against children reached 11,952 in 2021, with sexual violence dominating with 7,004 cases or 56.6% of the total cases. These numbers underscore the urgency of addressing the issue of violence against children in Indonesia. Prevention strategies are key in combating this violence, with a focus on creating a safe environment and exposing structures that enable violence to occur.
In her presentation, Mrs. Adriana Mailoa emphasized the importance of support aimed at trauma recovery and empowerment of the victims. Additionally, psychological support and therapy are considered crucial in assisting victims to cope with the emotional impacts resulting from the violence they have experienced. Furthermore, support also extends to the families of the victims and the perpetrators.
During the counseling sessions, volunteers are assigned tasks to provide victims with information about their rights, listen empathetically, offer physical and psychological reinforcement, as well as accompany victims objectively throughout the investigation and prosecution processes.
"I extend my highest appreciation to PT. BIA and also to the Gender Committee for inviting me from the Kharisma Psychological Support Institution as a facilitator. Hopefully, what we can provide will be beneficial to all colleagues, especially those from the gender committee," said Mrs. Adriana Mailoa. “Through this activity, it is hoped that participants can disseminate their knowledge to the wider community, thereby reducing or preventing threats of violence against women and children.” She concluded.
