PT. BIA Bekerja Sama dengan Telkomsel, Berkomitmen untuk Membuat PAPUA TERHUBUNG

Pada tahun 2012 PT. BIA memulai bisnisnya di tanah Papua tepatnya di wilayah Merauke. Pada saat itu belum ada satupun jaringan yang bisa digunakan untuk berkomunikasi, baik melalui telepon maupun internet. Seiring sejalan dengan pembangunan bisnisnya, PT. BIA berkomitmen untuk membangun daerah di sekitarnya.

Pada awal tahun 2014 – 2016, PT. BIA melakukan kerja sama dengan Telkomsel untuk mewujudkan akses telekomunikasi di sekitar wilayah kerja PT. BIA. Kerja sama antara 2 perusahaan ini biasa disebut B2B atau Business to Business. Dari hasil kerja sama tersebut, berhasil merealisasikan 2 (dua) tower dengan kapasitas jaringan 2G di sekitar wilayah Estate A PT. BIA. Saat itu, layanan telekomunikasi yang dapat dinikmati masih berupa layanan telepon dan layanan pesan singkat (SMS), juga data EDGE walaupun belum maksimal kala itu. Seiring berjalannya waktu, PT. BIA terus melanjutkan program kerja yang telah dibuatnya.

Kemudian, dalam kurun waktu 2018 – 2020, PT.BIA berusaha menghadirkan layanan 4G berkualitas dalam genggaman meskipun berada di daerah pelosok. Dan masih bekerja sama dengan Telkomsel, pada bulan Maret 2020 lalu, layanan 4G berhasil on air dan dinikmati oleh masyarakat di wilayah sekitar Merauke – Tanah Merah (Portal).

Kemudian dilanjutkan pada bulan Mei 2020 lalu, sebanyak 3 (tiga) tower dengan layanan 4G dapat dinikmati oleh seluruh masyarakat di sekitar Merauke di kampung Muting. Dengan hadirnya jaringan 4G Telkomsel, maka masyarakat kini dapat menikmati layanan berbasis broadband yang lebih maksimal.

Kami percaya dengan hadirnya teknologi komunikasi, jarak dan waktu bukan lagi menjadi hambatan. Karena terhubung dengan dunia luar adalah modal utama Papua untuk dapat maju dan berkembang.

Hal ini seiring sejalan dengan program corporate social responsibility beyond to POSCO Corporate Citizenship.

2020.02.12PT BIA received complaints from the Bentala Pusaka Foundation regarding the demolition of a sacred site of Yawantop, the Indigenous peoples of Malind and Wambon Tekamerop. Allegedely, the Company had destroyed sacred site used to perform traditional rituals. A field verification was immediately carried out and it was discovered that the area in question was a category HCV 4 area which according to the testimony of the Basik-Basik clan, was a natural well of 0.2 ha
2020.02.20Public consultations related to the clarification and rehabilitation of high conservation value areas have been carried out with LMA, indigenous communties, and local NGOs with the consultations also being attended by local governments bringing the total attendance to 66 people.
2020.03..12A traditional ceremony has been held between the clans involved, the company and also the local community. Followed by rehabilitation (replanting) with the plants requested by the clan on April 4, 2020.
2020.04.04At present, the Case has been listed as Resolved and continues to be monitored by the HCV team who also collaborates with the VMT (Village Monitoring Team) that has been formed comprised of members of the indigenous community itself.

The KNCP published its Final Statement on January 13, 2022. The statement indicated that KNCP did not accept the complainants' claim, but recommended that POSCO International should continue with its current efforts to implement active environmental and social policies and communicate with stakeholders in the future. In response, POSCO International submitted a performance report to KNCP on July 29, 2022, detailing the progress of their ESG activities, including the implementation of the NDPE policy in accordance with the recommendations.
